

Alice (Alicia) Alarcon Vargas, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, December 19, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Jorge R. Vargas; daughter, Norma; sons, Jorge Jr. (Yolanda); Victor; two grandchildren, Beth (Josh); and Trevor; four sisters, Flora Sotelo, Ida Alba (Esteban), Yolanda Contreras, Barbara Morales, and one brother Lorenzo Alarcon Jr. (Marisela), and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was born in San Elizario, Texas. She was a graduate of Ysleta High School and the Texas College of Mines. She was an elementary and bilingual teacher for 29 years with the El Paso Independent School District. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with her family. We would like to thank her caregivers, Diana, Elizabeth, Isabel and Aurelia for their love and tenderness during her illness.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 5-9p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Central with rosary at 7p.m. Funeral mass will be Friday, December 22, 2017 at 8:30a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 104 Fewel Street followed by burial at 10 a.m. at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the El Paso Alzheimer’s Association.
