

Elfego Piñón, Jr., beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Born in El Paso, Texas, on March 10, 1942, Elfego spent most of his early years in El Paso where he attended Cathedral High School (Class of 1960) and the University of Texas at El Paso (Class of 1964 – B.S. in Physics). During his 70 years, he worked as an engineer, real estate agent, and high school teacher in states from California to New Mexico to Massachusetts. He loved working on cars, woodworking, miniatures (houses and railroads), and astronomy but above all, he loved spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elfego Piñón, Sr., and Tomasa Piñón and by his first wife, Teresa Evelyn Piñón.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Monika Piñón, whose selfless care of him during his final years helped ease his suffering. He is also survived by his brother, Robert, and sisters, Gloria, Graciela, and Luana, all of El Paso. He also leaves behind three sons, Elfego Piñón, III, and wife Angelica of Albuquerque, James Piñón and wife Firdevs of Detroit, and Roger Piñón. Other surviving relatives include granddaughter, Evelyn Teresa Piñón; grandson, Elfego Piñón, IV; and grandson, Jonathan Troy Piñón.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m., with a Vigil to begin at 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Martin Funeral Home Central. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Saint Raphael Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Evergreen East Cemetery.
