"Rikis" died Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the age of 95. Before marrying Consuelo Torres in 1946 he fought for his country in World War II as a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne in the invasion of Normandy. His service was rewarded with the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal,Presidential Unit Citation, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle EasternCampaign Medal, Bronze Star Attachment (Quadruple), World War Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge 1st Award and Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII. We are humbly grateful to his nephew; Salvador Gomez who included his name at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., acknowledging his participation in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge as well as being rescued by the French Underground behind enemy lines while his Mother received the telegram declaring him "Missing in Action".
We take this opportunity to thank Dr. U. R. Dim, his Cardiologist and his exceptional staff for their tender care as well as,Dr. Morilla, Dr. S, Rodriguez, Dr, G. Halow, Dr. L. Alpern for his sweet, thoughtful treatment of a 95-year-old man, Thank you to the VA and ALL its staff; clerks, technicians, pharmacists and aides.
Enrique retired from Phelps Dodge Copper Refinery after 30 years of service and leaves his family behind to continue enjoying the fruits of his labor; his wife of 74 years, Consuelo; his three daughters Irene Bernal, Martha Gomez and Enriqueta Gomez; his son-in-law Mike Bernal for whose help he was always grateful; his one and only granddaughter Victoria Gomez; his one and only grandson Benjamin Bernal (Ryann); and his one and only great grandson Troy Alba; his three sisters-in-law Blasa Schultz, Aurora Diaz and Maria Sanchez (Felipe); countless nieces and nephews.
