Guadalupe was one of fifteen children born in Zacatecas, Mexico on November 3, 1931 to Crispin Lopez and Maria Luevano (both born in the late 1800’s). She made her own way to the United States at 17 years of age. It is here where she could provide and care for her mother, whom she loved dearly. She met her husband Arturo Vazquez who she sweetly called “el mas guapo” through his sister, Abigail. They dated briefly and married in Las Cruces, New Mexico on November 26, 1954. Together they created a beautiful family. Guadalupe always lived beyond herself, putting her own needs behind those she loved. Her generous heart knew no bounds, her strength had no limit, her words powered by wisdom and justice transformed lives, her incredible sense of humor present to the very end forever lightened our burdens and brightened our paths. She painted for us a lovely world and left behind a lasting legacy of fierce love and hope. “Mariquita, jechu, güeli, gordita, mafiosa, tuzita, abuelita hermosa, madrecita santa”, the way you lived your life will forever be virtue in our hearts, where you will remain and live without end.
