Anything that has a birth, must also have a death. The spirit is not born with a person, but is given at the time of birth. Therefore because the spirit has no birth, it will never die.

Cualquier cosa que tiene un nacimiento, también debe tener una muerte. El espíritu no nace con una persona, sino que se le otorga en el momento del nacimiento. Por lo tanto, como el espíritu no tiene nacimiento, nunca morirá.

Man's life is brief, and being so it is useless to have the fear of death, for death must come sooner or later to everybody, Man and all living things are born, pass on and are gone, while the mountains and rivers remain always the same- these alone of all visible things stay unchanged. 

Death comes, and always comes out of season. It is the command of the great spirit, all nations and people must obey

La vida del hombre es breve, y siendo así, es inútil tener miedo a la muerte, pues la muerte debe llegar tarde o temprano a todos. El hombre y todas las cosas vivas nacen, pasan y desaparecen, mientras que las montañas y los ríos permanecen siempre iguales; estos son los únicos de todas las cosas visibles que se mantienen inalterables.

La muerte llega, y siempre llega fuera de tiempo. Es el mandato del gran espíritu, todas las naciones y personas deben obedecer.

When I sat at on the floor of the altar, there was a part of the night where the wind blew. We all knew the ancestors had joined us at that time. I remember crying & closing my eyes. I saw & felt my abuelito putting his hand on my shoulder like he would when I was younger, he visited me. He is now one of my ancestors who will look after me.

Cuando me senté en el suelo del altar, hubo una parte de la noche en la que el viento sopló. Todos sabíamos que los ancestros se habían unido a nosotros en ese momento. Recuerdo haber llorado y cerrar los ojos. Vi y sentí a mi abuelito poniendo su mano en mi hombro como lo hacía cuando era más joven, él me visitó. Ahora es uno de mis ancestros que me cuidará.

My Abuelito passed 9 days before Dia De Los Muertos (Miccailhuitl). On the night of November 1st my community had an overnight ceremony for Dia De Los Muertos to honor our ancestors & welcome them to visit us. My abuelito & his dad along with other ancestors made it to the altar. I left them a tamale, flores, luz, & water. I sang cantos with the voice he passed down to me. 

I will remember all the times we visited him in El Paso, the ways he cared for all his perritos. I know those animal spirits will care for him too in the other world. He always said that the animals are better than humans, he always believed in traditional medicine of our indigenous communities, I understand him & will carry that on.

Mi abuelito falleció 9 días antes del Día de los Muertos (Miccailhuitl). En la noche del 1 de noviembre, mi comunidad tuvo una ceremonia nocturna para el Día de los Muertos para honrar a nuestros ancestros y darles la bienvenida para que nos visitaran. Mi abuelito y su papá, junto con otros ancestros, llegaron al altar. Les dejé un tamal, flores, luz y agua. Canté cantos con la voz que él me transmitió.

Recordaré todas las veces que lo visitamos en El Paso, las formas en que cuidaba a todos sus perritos. Sé que esos espíritus animales también lo cuidarán en el otro mundo. Siempre decía que los animales son mejores que los humanos, siempre creyó en la medicina tradicional de nuestras comunidades indígenas, lo entiendo y continuaré con eso.

I had the honor of dancing con mi abuelo at my quince. My mom knew something I didn't at the time, that I would be able to cherish this moment once his spirit moved to the other world. He danced with me because he couldn't at my mom's quince.

Tuve el honor de bailar con mi abuelo en mi quince. Mi mamá sabía algo que yo no sabía en ese momento, que podría atesorar este momento una vez que su espíritu se trasladara al otro mundo. Bailó conmigo porque no pudo en el quince de mi mamá.
