With heavy hearts the family of James Robert (Bob) Tolliver announces his passing on December 13th, 2025, at the age of 81. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Bob's life was defined by love and loyalty to his family, his work, and to his wonderful friends.
Born in West Virginia, Bob's early years were marked by the love and support of his parents, Joe, Sr. (Papa T) and Marie (Mama T), and his older brother, Joe Jr. Bob's family settled in El Paso when he was a young boy. After graduating from Bel Air High School in 1964, Bob proudly served his country as a member of the United Stated Marine Corps. His time in the military instilled a strong sense of duty and discipline, values he carried with him always.
One of the proudest chapters of Bob's life was his 40-year career with Union Pacific Railroad where he held positions as a brakeman, switchman, and conductor. He took great pride in his work, the friendships he built along the way, and the legacy of service he left behind. His passion for his work was matched only by his enthusiasm for cars- an interest he'd held since childhood.
In 1986, Bob married Sandra Terry and together they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love. Bob was a proud father of three sons: James Robert, Jr, David (Soraya), and Mark. His greatest joy came from being a grandfather to Aidan and Andrew, and a great-uncle to Jack Pine, Charlie Pine, Nicole Tolliver, Natalie Tolliver, and Joey Tolliver. He was also especially close to his sister-in-law, Susan Terry, his niece, Laura Pine, and her husband, Chuck Pine, all of whom held a special place in his heart. Their bond was a testament to the love of family that was always at the core of his being.
Along with his family, Bob's friendships were among the deepest and most meaningful parts of his life. He had a gift for connecting with others, and his authenticity made him a cherished friend to many. Whether working in his garage or spending time in the railroad yard, Bob was always happy when surrounded by his friends. His family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful friends who stood by his side throughout his life and who, over the years, became an extension of his family.
Bob is predeceased by his father, Joe, Sr., his mother, Marie, and his brother, Joe, Jr. He leaves behind his loving wife, three sons, two grandsons, and a lifetime of memories that will continue to bring comfort to those who loved him. His legacy will live on through his family and the countless people whose lives he touched.
