Juanita Rascoe

Juanita Short Rascoe, 95, of Dell City, Tx passed away on February 27,2022 in El Paso, Tx. She was born on March 31, 1926 to Lewis Frederick and Vergie Adams Short in Mt. Tabor, Arkansas. She was the youngest and last surviving of 14 siblings.

Juanita attended school at Shady Grove through the eighth grade, at which time she quit school along with her older sister to care for their mother who had become unable to walk due to illness. In her early years, Juanita worked in the cotton fields and later helped run a grocery store. That is where she met and married her husband, Roy Rascoe. They were married for 60 years and had 2 children.

Juanita and Roy lived in Arkansas for a time where he worked in the log woods. They moved to Northern New Mexico before settling in Carlsbad, NM. Roy worked in the potash mines, for Snodgrass Tire and hauled dirt and gravel for yards. Juanita was a homemaker and helped Roy with his business endeavors.

In 1959, the family moved to Dell City, Tx where Juanita lived until her death. She remained a homemaker, but was also involved in school organizations, raising two children and keeping books for Roy’s businesses. She did not have any formal bookkeeping training but was self taught and developed a system that, today, is still being used by the company.

Juanita had many interests. She loved caring for her home and yard. She also loved embroidery, scrapbooking and taking pictures of equipment and vehicles as they were bought. She also helped care for several bothers and a sister during the later part of their lives.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, 13 siblings, her husband, Roy Rascoe, daughter-in-law Helen Rascoe, granddaughter-in-law Chelsea Bowman Dean, nephews Rodney Short and Billy Joe Rascoe and nieces Lindee Vaughn and Suda Howard. She is survived by her children, James Rascoe and Joy Dean both of Dell City. Juanita is also survived by grandchildren, Tammy Rascoe, Chad Rascoe and Riely Dean all of Dell City, great grandchildren Chance (Mikala) Hughes of Carlsbad, NM, Brandon( Kayla) Hughes of Spanaway, Wa, and Reagan Dean of Carlsbad, NM, one great-great grandchild, Brinley Dee Rascoe of Carlsbad, NM, and several bonus great-grandchildren, Wesley Laman of Carlsbad, NM, Kaitlyne and Matthew Laman of Houston, Texas and Kiri and Rayden Gilbert of Artesia, NM. Juanita is also survived by sister-in-law Faye Schrimshire of Carlsbad, NM and many nephews and nieces too numerous to name but who she loved dearly.

Graveshide services will be held at Dell Valley Memorial Acres on Friday March 4 at 10:00 a.m. A pot luck luncheon will be held after the service at The Hut.
