Lucia Alicia Medina Galindo passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on October 1, 1942, in Casa Grandes Chihuahua to Lucia and Pedro Galindo. Alicia was a beacon of faith, strength, and independence throughout her life.
Alicia was the first in her family to immigrate to the United States, where she laid down roots and started a family. Her pioneering spirit and resilience were an inspiration to all who knew her. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, finding solace and strength in her beliefs.
Alicia was an active and passionate member of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). She served as treasurer working to support her community and advocating for civil rights. She traveled to Washington D.C. and traveled to many cities in Texas as a delegate for the Food Services Association which she served as President. She was instrumental in shaping public school food policy, ensuring that students received nutritious and balanced meals. Her dedication to service extended to her local church, where she was a beloved and involved member, contributing her time and energy to numerous church activities and initiatives.
Alicia was the oldest of eight children and was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, maintaining close, loving relationships with her family. Her dedication, wisdom, and guidance were cherished by all her family members and dear friends.
Alicia is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jose Medina, sister Edna Galindo, and brothers Omar, Pedro, Ramiro and Jorge Galindo. She is survived by her three children, Jose (Minerva), Alberto (Sandra), and Angelica (Daniel); five grandchildren, Bianca, Jacob, Alex, Adan, and Andrew who were her pride and joy; and two great-grandchildren, Cora and Emma, who brought her immense happiness in her later years. She is also survived by her sister Maria Isela (Erasmo) Salazar and youngest brother Juan Arturo (Aurora) Galindo.
Alicia's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her commitment to her family, and her dedication to her community. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 4805 Byron St, El Paso, TX 79930 on Friday, June 28, 2024 with a rosary at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. and a Celebration of Life following immediately after Mass until 2 p.m.
