Luz (Lucy) Armendariz: loyal, committed, strong work ethic, firm personal values, organized, impeccably groomed, stand-in parent, daughter, sister, aunt, fun loving, dancer, music lover, counselor, Christian, friend, strong, volunteer... These are all words that describe Lucy. Whether you were her friend, family, co-worker or you met her out and about, Lucy always shared part of herself with you.
As her name indicates, Lucy was the light of the Armendariz clan. She represented her title well. In the same way a ray of light contains all the colors known to the eye, a ray of Luz Armendariz offered color to your life. She lived her life bright and colorful. Lucy danced, dated, traveled, took cruises, raised kids, took care of her elderly parents, took care of her sisters, was a well-informed football fan and found time to exercise and work cross word puzzles.
Lucy was born in El Paso Texas on April 10, 1924, and graduated from El Paso High School in 1942. She spent 30 years as the Secretary to the Chief of Psychiatry at William Beaumont Hospital. At the age of a very full 91 years, Lucy lost her battle with cancer and left us on January 22, 2016. She passed away quietly and peacefully at home in the presence of her niece, with her loved ones nearby.
Lucy is survived by two sisters Bertha A. Rearick and Susana A. Tovar, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Miguel and Benita U. Armendariz, brothers Martin Armendariz and Encarnacion (Johnny) Armendariz, and sister Candelaria (Candy) Grijalva.
Family members continue to celebrate her life on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Martin Funeral Home Central, 3839 Montana, El Paso, Texas, with visitation at 9:00 am, prayer service at 10:00 am, and graveside services immediately following at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 8700 Dyer St.
