Marcelo Herrera Jr. was born on February 20, 1939 in Smeltertown, Texas to Marcelo Herrera Sr. and Consuelo Maria Castañon. He entered into rest on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the age of 84, in El Paso, Texas.
Marcelo was very proud to have grown up in Smeltertown. He was a district level basketball star and graduated from La Tech in 1959. He loved his country and served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. He married the love of his life, Amelia Ochoa. They were blessed in love for 54 years and had 3 daughters and 3 grandchildren whom he loved very much. Marcelo was a huge sports fan. He coached his daughters' softball teams and played baseball himself on the Rosa's Cantina team for 15 yrs. He was an avid golfer, a Boston Red Sox fan and a Dallas Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed family get-togethers and singing karaoke whenever he could. His favorite songs to sing were La Barca, 100 años and songs by Juan Gabriel. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His final resting place will be Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.
A visitation for Marcelo will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79903 with rosary at 6:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 9:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9025 Diana Dr, El Paso, TX 79904 followed by a graveside service at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906.
