Matthew Edward Sierra

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew Edward Sierra, 34, a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle and friend, United States Navy veteran, and talented DJ, who left this world far too soon on June 12th, 2025.

Born on April 9th, 1991, in El Paso, TX. Matthew lived a life marked by service creativity, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. At a young age, he answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his time in the military, he served with honor and distinction, earning the respect of his fellow sailors and the gratitude of a nation. After completing his service he worked as a surgical technician while turning music – his lifelong passion. He pursued and completed his degree at the Los Angeles Film School in 2024.

He found a new way to connect with people as a DJ. Whether spinning tracks at a packed venue or creating mixes late in to the night, he had a unique ability to bring people together through music. Known in the LA scene as DJ Mt. Sierra, he was more than an entertainer – he was a storyteller, a mood-setter, and a light in the lives of many.

Beyond his professional life, Matthew was known for his generous spirit, sharp wit and warm smile. He had a gift for making people feel seen and heard. His presence was magnetic and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his mother, Celia Sierra, his father Leopoldo Sierra, his sisters Neomi Sierra and Denise Suarez (Michael Suarez).

Visitation will be Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a vigil at 7:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79903. Funeral mass will be Friday, July 18, 2025 at 11:30 am at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 8600 Winchester Rd, El Paso, TX 79907. With interment to follow in Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906, with military honors.
