December 31, 1939-October 25, 2025
Milton Merl Cartmill, a devoted husband, father, and cherished family member, was reunited with his parents, brother, sister and son-in-law on October 25, 2025. Born in Tucson, Arizona, on December 31, 1939, to Daisy and Augustus Cartmill, Milton’s life was marked by service, love, and a deep connection to family and community.
As a child, Milton’s family moved to San Diego, California, where they supported the war effort. He grew up exploring the canyons of San Diego, hunting small game, delivering newspapers, and working at the San Diego Zoo. These early years shaped his adventurous spirit and strong work ethic.
After graduating from Stephen W. Kearny High School, Milton enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served with honor as a Warehousing Specialist. His service took him to Taiwan and Clinton Sherman Air Force Base. He also served with the National Guard and Reserve.
Following his military career, Milton returned to San Diego and worked as a Parts Specialist for Freightliner. It was there he met the love of his life, Elena. They were married in 1979 and shared 46 beautiful years together, with Elena lovingly caring for him in his later years. Shortly after their marriage, they relocated to Ventura County for a promotion. In their early years, they enjoyed fishing, dancing, and exploring life together before starting their family.
Milton had a deep passion for classical and jazz music, with an extensive collection of records and CDs. He loved watching westerns and spending time at garage sales and swap meets, always on the lookout for a good bargain. He had a deep love for animals and always shared his home with a beloved dog and cats. Milton also had a sweet tooth, enjoying the soda, candy, and ice cream. He and Elena tended a vegetable garden together, creating a peaceful sanctuary at home.
Above all, Milton was a dedicated family man. He cherished time with his daughters, Christina and Nicole, and supported their academic and extracurricular endeavors. He created lasting memories with his girls.
Milton is survived by his beloved wife, Elena; daughters Christina and Nicole; grandchildren Ashley, Alicia, Colton, and Abigail; his brother Charles; and sisters Betty and Jimmie; his beloved cat Kitty James. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, his sister, and his son-in-law.
In honor of Milton’s wishes, his ashes will be lovingly spread in Tucson and San Diego, two places that were close to his heart.
