Our beloved Olga Flores passed away peacefully January 18th early in the morning while holding the hands of her daughters. She lived a long life and was just four months away from her 95th birthday. Olga was born May 26, 1929. Her parents were Maria and Jesus Delgado. She lived her whole life in El Paso, Texas where she met and married Ramon C. Flores. She was 15 and he was 18. They had a song, "Nosotros" that her husband Ramon sang to her before he left to go to war in 1944. They were married for 62 years until Ramon died in 2003.
Olga was an extraordinary individual. Her mother, Maria, told us that she was speaking in complete sentences at nine months and excelled in school and was double promoted. Olga was an only child, yet God blessed her with an abundance of family. She knew, loved and prayed for every single one of them. She was a woman of great and deep faith. She knew her bible from beginning to end. Olga always imparted a seed of faith to her descendants whenever she spoke to them.
Olga's love was to teach and for a short time worked for Head Start to help children with early education. However, her commitment to family took top priority and settled being a mother and housewife. She did not work again until she was in her 60s. Her work at a Home Health Program was very fulfilling to her taking care of the elderly at home. A few years after she retired, she herself was enrolled in a home health program called Bienvivir an all-inclusive senior health community program, where she was treated with respect and kindness. She loved making the arts and crafts taught there and it inspired her to create gift projects for her family and friends.
She was truly a beautiful person. People who knew her have described her as a woman of grace, style, compassion, kindness, generosity, empathy, tenacity, and having a perceptive and imaginative mind. She had a sense of justice for humanity. She was a consummate voice for Jesus' love and faith in the Almighty. She uplifted the spirit of others and gave them worth and comfort. She hoped the love of God would endure in her children, and their families. She will be greatly missed, and remembered with warmth and great affection.
Olga is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Ramon C. Flores and children, Ruth Guevara, Oscar and Teresa Flores. She is survived by her children Ramon, Elena, Elvia, Sandra and David; 19 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 24 great, great grandchildren. In addition, she raised her grandson, Moises, as her son and her niece, Consuelo, as her daughter.
