Rafael Escalante

Rafael Escalante, 78, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2022. He was a graduate of Bowie High School, class of ’64. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department for 25 years. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend.

Preceded in death by his father Rafael Escalante, mother Maria de Jesus Quinones, and his brother Eduardo Escalante.

He is survived by his sons, Rafael Escalante and Ricardo Escalante, his daughter Rosa Elena Montes, stepsons Roberto Mendez and Eduardo Mendez, stepdaughters Ivonne Gomez and Adriana Vachris; his grandchildren Cielo Cervantes, Christian Montes, Ocean Montes, Nathaniel Montes, Keith Escalante, Christopher Escalante, Ricardo Escalante, Matthew Escalante and Emanuel Escalante; brother Carlos Escalante and sisters Elizabeth Martinez and Irene Portillo.

Rafael was the definition of a kind human being and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave. on Wednesday, November 2, from 4pm - 8pm. Funeral service will be Thursday, November 3 at 9am at Funeraria Del Angel Central. Graveside service will follow at 10:30am Thursday, November 3, at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
