

Roberto Manuel Tejada Gonzalez, age 82, peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home on November 3, 2023 in El Paso, Texas. He was born on December 19, 1940, in El Paso, Texas, to Roberto L. Tejada and Luz Gonzalez de Tejada. Roberto was a graduate of Texas Western College (now the University of Texas at El Paso) with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Roberto began his career with the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) in September 1967 as an Engineering Assistant, designing sections of US 54, IH 110, and Loop 375 (Border Highway). In 1972, he moved to construction and worked on various projects, including the completion of IH-10 to Executive Center and Loop 375 (Trans Mountain Road). In 1974, he was named the Senior Maintenance Engineer, where he worked until his promotion to Director of Maintenance in 1992. He oversaw highway maintenance operations in the six counties that make up the El Paso District until his retirement from TXDOT in August 2002.
Roberto served in the Army Reserves for 8 years and received recognition from the Department of Defense's National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. He was also made an honorary Chief of the U.S. Naval Reserve because of his support for employees who serve in the National Guard or Reserves.
Roberto married Martha Elena Marquez on September 3, 1966. They shared a beautiful life together for 57 years. They enjoyed spending time together traveling the world and dancing together at every opportunity! In his retirement, he enjoyed learning about and dabbling in the stock market and making lasting home improvements that made him proud. Roberto and Martha had 3 children: Roberto M. Tejada, Jr., Hector E. Tejada, and Raquelina Santa Cruz. Roberto was known as a patient, respectful, loyal, loving, and kind- hearted man, who worked hard to build a strong family foundation for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Martha, his sister Virginia Zuverza, his three children: Robert M. Tejada (husband to Magdalena Santana), Jr., Hector E. Tejada, and Raquelina Santa Cruz (wife to Vicente Santa Cruz), and his grandchildren: Andrea E. Santa Cruz, Robert M. Tejada IV, Sarah D. Tejada, Aaron V. Santa Cruz, Marco Tejada, and Ariana Santa Cruz. Roberto was preceded in death by his parents Roberto and Luz Tejada; his sister Dora Luz Delgado.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm at FDA-Evergreen East with Rosary Vigil at 12:00 pm followed by interment at 1:30 pm at Evergreen Cemetery East, 12400 E. Montana Ave., 79938.
