He was a loving father and husband who loved his children and grandchildren. He worked at Southern Pacific Railroad until he retired in 1999.
Sal was predeceased by his mother, Micaela Hernandez.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Consuelo Avila; his four children, David Avila, Norma Franco, Zandra Wing and Christina Denton; seven grandchildren, Dominic, Cherie, Alyssa, Andreas, Derek, Dylan, and Ty. He is also survived by his stepson and daughter in law, Tommy & Rosa Flores and two step granddaughters, Briana & Alyana.
Sal's family will host a visitation Thursday March 7, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a vigil at 7:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Central, 3839 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79903. Memorial service will be Friday, March 8, at 3:00 PM in Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave. El Paso, TX 79906.
