We miss Gary every time we look out our window! A very nice family took over his house - we're grateful for them, but we still miss Gary!

There's a very nice family occupying Gary's house now, and taking good care of everything. But we still miss the good Gary!

Gary and my late husband Jay were great fishing buddies, even though I introduced them. Gary was very supportive when Jay passed away; I knew Kile was ill, but had no idea how bad it had gotten; he brushed me off when I inquired about his health.

Gary was a great friend of mine and my husband,Jay, who often fished with him before he passed away, June5,2012; Gary was a great comfort to me after Jay died;

a great friend through difficult times and I will miss him always!

I met Gary when he bought the knife store from Dean Kell.  I was working there at the time, and continued to work for Gary a number of years before enlisting in the Army.    It has been my pleasure and honor to have spent time with him and introduce him to my family when we came home for a visit.  His stories, art, and humor will carry on, and he will be fondly remembered by our family.

I first met Gary - when?- Must have been back in the 80's when I was visiting my Mother and Gary was her next door neighbor. He had just bought his house from the people who owned the Grace Gift Shop downtown. 

After the death of my mother Dorothy Carnine Scott, in 1993, George & I moved to Estes ourselves and enjoyed Gary Kile as a good neighbor, all the years since.  So many good things to say about him! He agreed with Mama and then with us about taking down barbed wire fences so the elk could freely follow their ancient routes. Gary used to put out salt for the deer, but eventually stopped doing that when we all learned that it's better to let them graze for themselves. We would always shout warnings across at each other when there was a bear roaming nearby [but I don't think Gary minded when one would shelter under his back deck, along with the firewood!]. I hope someone will get out the wonderful sketchbooks Gary filled with scenes from his travels in Africa - please bring them to the gathering next Sunday at the American Legion, for the celebration of Gary's life. And I hope the rest of you will share your memories of his military service, and of his years of work as owner of the the Knife Shop on Moraine Avenue.
