Munson Baldwin, 96, passed away on April 24, 2024 in Estes Park, CO. He was born February 12, 1928 in California and shared the same birthday with Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin. Munson is a graduate of YALE University and a veteran of both the Occupation of Japan and the Korean War. He is the father of four great children, six grand-children and recently his first great granddaughter was born: Winifred Jean Baldwin Costello.
He has owned three businesses in his lifetime, and has written a book on ballooning. In one business, he successfully drilled the water well for what is now the Denver Broncos’ stadium in Denver. He had a business here in Estes Park called “Tile with a Smile”, and had a non-profit with his wife, Joanne, called “Sojourners International”, which helped international students at a Master’s Degree school in Denver.
Then, there is the “Bird Man of Estes Park” aspect where Munson created a neighborhood for Bluebirds and Swallows—with forty bird-nesting boxes. Such a joy!
Munson has also made a lot of furniture and several cabinets in his home, including an eight-foot high cabinet patterned after his wife in the artist Monet’s dining room! He is a very talented man!
Unlike some people his age, Munson embraced life, read three books per week, used to hike in the moraine at Rocky Mountain National Park every day! He like research, and he should have been a doctor. When he was 15 years old in his area in Connecticut, his own MD decided he could take the people’s blood, as a phlebotomist would today!
Munson was a very positive person even in the winter while waiting for the birds to return, or waiting for his wife, Joanne before church.
A few years ago, Munson became a Christian after God convinced him that his life with the Spirit of God through Jesus Christ is the only way to receive eternal life. The greatest thing of all is to be able to share our faith says Joanne and to share our love (in love) with each other. They have been married for 31 years now and have known each other for 58 years! That is another great story…
A celebration of life will take place May 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Rocky Mountain Evangelical Church in Estes Park. A private inurnment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery at a later date. Please visit www.allnuttestespark.com to leave a message for the family.
