Born in England, Barbara was a professional Ballroom Dancer whose elegance and grace were entirely her own. She shared that life and the dance floor with her husband, Ronald A. Martin, until his passing in 2022. The Tango was their signature, and when they took to the floor, the room went quiet.
Quiet was also how Barbara moved through everyday life, soft-spoken, unassuming, and somehow magnetic. People gravitated toward her, felt lucky to be in her corner, and often left her presence feeling a little more heroic for having shown up.
A gifted seamstress, Barbara designed and handcrafted many of her own clothes and some of her competition gowns. Two of those beautiful gowns were donated to Vitality Living at Lake Forest, where they will be displayed in the Ballroom. A fitting tribute to a woman who graced so many dance floors. She and Ronald were also devoted German Shepherd parents, sharing their home and hearts with many beloved dogs over the years.
Barbara passed away peacefully in her sleep, smiling. Because of course she did. She was the kind of woman whose memory makes you want to stand a little taller, love a little harder, and maybe learn the Tango.
