

Smithy was born September 14, 1944 in Evansville, the son of the late Arvel and Ernestine (Hood) McGinnis. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from U of E and his Master’s from Indiana Wesleyan University. Smithy retired from teaching in 2006 from North Posey Jr. High School and was a life time member of National Education Association. He had owned and operated The Village Smithy and was a partner of the Deerhead Pizza Tavern. Smithy was extremely active in his community and was a member of Evansville Masonic Lodge #64, Scottish Rite, and Hadi Shrine, where he was a Mariner, on the Hospital Staff and 32nd Degree Learning Center. Smithy was also a past director of ARC. In his spare time, Smithy enjoyed kayaking, sailing, and fishing. But what he truly loved was helping children and raising funds for them, through the Hadi Shrine and various other charities.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Marilyn Noah-McGinnis; brother, Bradley McGinnis (Nancy), both of Bradenton, FL; nephew, Fred Scott Noah of Evansville; niece, Jilli Noah-Worth (Marty) of Louisville, KY; great niece, Mia Katherine Worth of Louisville, KY; and family friend, Stephanie Martinson.
Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville with Nancy McGinnis giving the eulogy. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 3 pm until 7 pm, Monday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel. Hadi Shrine will perform a walkthrough at 6:30 pm followed by a Memorial Service by the Evansville Masonic Lodge #64.
