Bennie Joe Sloan

He retired as V.P. and Controller of Atlas Van Lines after 44 years of service. He graduated from Newburgh High School in 1956 and later graduated from U of E. He then served in the Army at Ft. Knox for two years. Ben was a member of Mt. Gilead General Baptist Church where he served as Treasurer, Trustee, and enjoyed serving with the Lighthouse Men. He also served on multiple short-term mission trips to Honduras, and was a past member of Westwood General Baptist Church. Ben was an avid reader, in particular of the Civil War era. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and playing golf.

Ben was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Helen Patricia "Pat" Sloan; and his parents.

He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Larry) Shoptaw of Newburgh and Laura (Philip) Allen of Day, NY; son, Greg (Le'Ann) Sloan of Evansville; grandchildren, Steven (Rebekah), Jonathan (Samantha), Hannah, and Rebekah Shoptaw, Justin, Sarah, Katelyn, and Spencer Sloan; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Rae Shoptaw and soon to be born, Lillian Rose Shoptaw; sister, Ruth Deller of Evansville; and brother, Rev. John (Gladys) Sloan of Newburgh.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, July 8, 2016, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Pastors Bill Tennyson and John Sloan, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Friday from 9:30 AM until service time at the funeral home.
