Bruce was an amazing man.  So gentle, never complained about anything. I miss him tons at West River.  Please know he was very important to our staff and that there is not a day we don't think of him.-West River

Mr. Schuessler was a great teacher with so much patience!  I am so sorry for his family's loss.

Reading all the entries in the guest book so far, I can only second ( ... and third and fourth and fifth ... ) what has been expressed in all of them so far .. Mr. Scheussler (as we knew him back then) was a great Chem teacher whom every (really everyone) liked and learned from.  Deepest sympathies to all at his not being around any more ... but not at his passing, because looking at all the people who have written so far, he is, in a way, still with all of us ... evidenced by the number of entries but also by where they came from .. just about everywhere ! 
May he rest in peace  ... and be always with us. Glad I knew him and had him as a teacher (Class of 76).

I remember my 2 years in Mr. Schuessler's Chemistry classes with enormous fondness. I took 2 years partly because I couldn't stand the idea of cutting frogs in Biology and thus escaped it, but mostly because he was one of the most entertaining, informative, and engaged instructors I ever had in my 18 years of schooling.  It is sad to hear that he is gone.

I was sad to hear of Mr. Schuessler's passing.  He was a great teacher and part of my special memories of good old MVHS.  My heartfelt condolences to his family.

Bruce remained a part of my family for life. I often reminded him that he successfully tutored me through my chemistry class at Reitz (when he was my brother-in-law). I don't know what I would have done without him at that time! I treasure the times we visited in recent years and extend all of my sympathy to the members of his family, especially my nieces, nephews, and great niece. I was so very sad to hear the news about Mr. Schuessler (or "Shiz", as I always called him.)  He could not have been a sweeter, kinder man or cared more deeply about his students.  I probably had more chemical mishaps and crazy mistakes than anyone in our class, but he never ever lost his cool or his incredible sense of humor.  He had such an impact on so many people - what a gift to know how adored your husband and father is!

Thanks to Mr. Bruce Schuessler, I survived chemistry class at MVHS. He made a dreaded class actually enjoyable. Mr. Schuessler was a very kind, helpful teacher. There should be more like him. I am sorry to hear of Bruce's passing.  I remember him as a dedicated and compassionate educator. He passed the GED torch on to me, and I still teach Adult Education classes.  I am certain he will be greatly missed by many!

I ran into Mr Schuessler last year at a restaurant and had the opportunity to tell him how much I loved having him as a teacher. He was just the best. Such a kind teacher who took all the time I needed to explain something until I got it right. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. He was one of a kind.

Bruce had just started teaching when I and the rest of MVHS Class of 1960 took Chemistry.  Bruce was very enthusiastic and helpful.  Certainly one of the best teachers of my four years.

I am so sorry to hear that we lost a very wonderful man.  I was humbled to have been a student of Mr. Schuessler for Chemistry and Advanced Chemistry in Mt. Vernon.  I went on to study Chemistry at Purdue University and have been a researcher for the last 28 years for an agricultural company.

One of the best. Many fond memories of him. He was my home room teacher all 4 years in hi-school.

I am sad to hear of Mr. Schuessler's passing.  He was the reason I headed to Indiana University as a Chemistry major.  I have a life-long love of science in part because of his classes.

Jennifer, I hope the memories of good times with your dad comfort you now and always. He was a great teacher and an even better person.  I HATE science but loved his chemistry class so much that I took Advanced Chem.  I can still see and hear him saying, "Shoot, we know this" and "Water under the bridge."  He was so encouraging! The world lost a winner and heaven gained a good soul.

So sorry to read about Bruce's death.  I have known him since we were both seniors in high school and each won an Elks scholarship.  I always ranked him as the best teacher at MVHS during our 25 years of teaching there together.  I am spending the rest of this week in central Indiana so won't be able to come to the services even though I would love to see all you "kids". I can only duplicate what many others have already written. Mr. Schuessler was one of my favorite teachers.  And he was good too! College chemistry was a breeze. My condolences to the family.

Mr. Schuessler was my favorite teacher at MVHS.  He had that sense of humor that made class fun as well as interesting.   RIP Bruce.

He was the best of the best!  He made chemistry fun and understandable.  The best thing about him was his smile.  He was caring, patient and always kind.  I'm sure his family will miss him dearly, my sympathies to them.

Mr. Schuessler always had a gentle, funny disposition and nothing seemed to get him too riled up at school.  He was a wonderful teacher.  What an amazing legacy for his students and his family.

He was my most favorite teacher. He believed in me and encouraged me to reach higher. "Shoot we know this stuff" still rings in my ear to this day. He made learning so easy. So sorry to hear of his passing.

I loved having Mr. Schuessler as my chemistry teacher in high school.  He provided such a positive atmosphere in the classroom that it made class fun.  He fostered in me a life-long love of science and chemistry.  Rest in Peace, Mr. Schuessler.

I cannot say enough good things about Mr Schuessler. He was always ready with a smile and a funny quip. 22 years after being in his class, I still tell stories about being there!

Mr. Schuessler wad one of thr good ones. A great teacher & a great personal all around. He made such a positive impact in so many lives, he will be deeply missed.

Definitely one of my favorite teachers! His ready smile made his class most enjoyable. He made learning fun!

Mr. Schuessler was a great teacher and brought much joy to his many students.  I will be forever grateful for his service as a teacher, and for the positive inspiration he brought to my life.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Schuessler's passing. He was an inspiration to all. I really enjoyed our last chat last Feb. when I stopped in to see my dad while he was in rehab. I had my son with me because I wanted him to meet such a great influence he was on me as an educator.
