

Helen Rae (Hammett) Herndon, 85, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. She was born November 27, 1930, in Sullivan, KY, to the late Lexie and Virginia Pauline (Hill) Hammett.
She was a 1949 graduate of Evansville Central High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader. She was chosen for all-city high school orchestra as a violinist. She attended North Haven General Baptist Church in Evansville, where she volunteered for many years in the church nursery.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Herndon, in 1998; sister, Dorothy Rold; and brother, Alan Hammett.
She is survived by her sons, Bob Herndon of Fresno, CA and Tim Herndon of Bloomington; daughter, Lori Teibel of West Lafayette, IN; brothers, Gordon Hammett of California and Jimmy Hammett of Washington; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at North Haven General Baptist Church, 1800 Haven Drive, officiated by Pastor David Kelle, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue.
