

Dick was born in Evansville, Indiana on October 9, 1926 to the late Carl D. and Leona E. (Shofner) Jarvis. He graduated from Reitz High School and served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, Dick attended Northwestern University and Evansville College. Dick worked at the Evansville Courier & Press and Channel 14 for many years. He spent most of his career in advertising and even produced his own television show called "The Tri-State Jamboree." Dick was instrumental in the development of the Lawndale Shopping Center and served as the Chairman of School Reorganization in Marrs Township and as President of the Mt. Vernon Metro School Board. He was involved in many community organizations including the Boy Scouts, the 4-H and Youth First. Dick loved to cook, read, study history, listen to music, garden and spend quality time with his family. He was a man of faith and always said, "God's in Charge."
Dick is survived by his daughters, Sherry R. Copeland (Roger) and Carrie A. Starks, both of Evansville, IN; sons, Stephen W. Jarvis (Dana Thornberg) of Evansville, IN, and Gregory L. Jarvis (Roxanne) of Richland, IN; sister, Debbie Behme of Evansville, IN; brother, Ronald C. Jarvis (Charles Ann) of Evanville, IN; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brothers, Raymond L. and Jerry A. Jarvis.
A private memorial service will be held at Browning Funeral Home. Dick will be buried at Alexander Memorial Park where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
