
W. Thomas Spain, MD, 96, of Evansville, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2014, of natural causes. He was born on November 18, 1918 in Charlotte County, Virginia. He grew up in Richmond, VA and moved away in 1940.
Dr. Spain graduated from the Medical College of Virginia with a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy, from Purdue University with a PhD in Pharmacy, and from the University of Minnesota as a Doctor of Medicine. He completed his post-graduate training at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, New York.
He spent most of his medical career at Mead Johnson and Company and St. Mary's Medical Center. He also served for many years as Medical Director at Little Sisters of the Poor.
Dr. Spain is survived by his wife, Sharon Biggs Spain; two sons, Blake A. Spain, MD of Concord, NC and Berkely A. Spain of Charlotte, NC; daughter Stacy S. Hurd of La Jolla, CA; and grandsons, Bentley T. F. Spain and Bradford N. Spain.
There will be no visitation or services. Burial will be private.
