

Betty Ruth Hatlen Lee died peacefully in her sleep in Marysville, WA, on November 1, 2017. Betty was born March 9, 1924, in Everett, WA, to "Jack" Gjert and Rosella Hatlen (nee Gronlid). She grew up in Everett and graduated from Everett High School in 1942. She attended Pacific Lutheran College for two years and graduated from the University of Washington as a social worker. She married Stan Lee in Everett on June 3, 1949. Stan and Betty had three children and lived in the same north Everett home they had built in 1951 until 2011. Betty was a social worker for the state of Washington. She was a lifelong and active member of Central Lutheran Church. She and Stan enjoyed spending time with family, including summers at Lake Stevens, helping others, and traveling the world. Betty survived a life threatening brain aneurysm rupture in 2009. She developed dementia in her final years and lived in a memory care cottage, but continued to attend Central Lutheran Church weekly until this past month. Betty was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Occie Rolander; her sister-in-law, Betty Hatlen; her brother, Alan Hatlen, and his wife, Mavis Hatlen. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Stan Lee of Everett; her daughter, Linda Lee Nilson (John Nilson) of Regina, Saskatchewan; her son, Bob Lee (Kristi Nelson Lee) of Everett; and her daughter Nancy Lee Olsen (Steve Olsen) of Everett; and grandchildren, Ingrid Nilson of Vancouver, British Columbia; Solveig Nilson (Sotonye Igoniko) of Regina, Saskatchewan; Robbie Lee (Laurel) of Salmon, Idaho; Peter Lee of Everett; Mark Lee of Seattle; Betsy Olsen of Everett; Bobby Olsen (Alysia) of Portland, Oregon; and Suzy Lavis (Sam) of Spokane; and great-granddaughter, Aspen Lee of Salmon. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Rolander of Seattle; her brother, Jack Hatlen of Seattle; and her brother, Ralph Hatlen and his wife, Doris Hatlen of Burlington. A memorial service is being held at Central Lutheran Church at 2702 Rockefeller, Everett, WA, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2017. Reverend Jeremy Fuerst will conduct this celebration of Betty's life. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Betty Lee may be given to Central Lutheran Church or another charity of your choice.
