Born in 1951, Dan and his twin sister, Debby, were born in Tacoma, Washington to Harry and Sarah Tonge.
Dan went on to graduate from the University of Washington in Social Welfare. Dan then served as president of the King County Counsel of the Blind. He also taught morse code to prospective HAM operators.
Music was always an important part of his life. He played clarinet, saxophone, piano and accordion.
Dan never let an opportunity to swim pass him by and participated in three polar bear swims. His other hobbies included HAM radio and paddling with Dragon Boat teams. As an avid sports fan, Dan loved cheering on his local sports teams.
Dan spent lots of hours searching for the perfect music to add to his collection, whether it be on the internet or at thrift stores. Then recording it over and over again until it was perfect and met his strict standards.
He was infamous for not being able to sleep at night, but could fall asleep the second anyone began talking to him during the day.
In his later years, his two main joys were eating out and his many radios.
At age, 61 Dan married the love of his life, Jyl and always wanted to keep her laughing.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Sarah Tonge, and will be remembered alongside his beloved wife, Jyl.
He is survived by his sons; Michael and Joseph, his grandchildren, Landan, Aurelia, Harley, and Hale, and many friends and family.
A Memorial Service will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4504 Broadway, Everett, WA 98203, US, on May 11, 2026, at 1:00 pm with a graveside service to follow.
