July 2, 1934 – August 30, 2021
Gordon Shafer, 87, passed away August 30, 2021 at Providence Hospital.
Gordon was born in Shubert, Nebraska and raised on the family farm. In 1954 he married Marian Faust, and continued farming until relocating to Everett in 1957, where they raised their family of 3 children. At that time, he went to work for Boeing as a mechanic. He began his career at the Renton factory and later transferred to the Everett factory working on the 747, where he eventually joined the AOG crew and travelled all over the world. In 1992 he retired to care for Marian, due to her cancer illness, until her passing in 1999. Over the years he and Marian enjoyed travelling, camping, fishing, bowling, and square dancing. In 2003 he met a special friend, Esther, who became his companion and square dance partner until her passing in 2017. After his cancer diagnosis in 2018 he fought courageously and endured the years of treatment, but it eventually slowed him down.
Many years of being an active member of the Whirlybirds Square Dance Club was his passion. He attended dances at other square dance clubs from all around as well, and he very much enjoyed the wonderful friendships of so many in the dancing “family”. Even when he was no longer able to dance, he liked going to the dances to watch and socialize.
Gordon is survived by daughters Joan Greenwood and Janell Baker, grandchildren - Josh, Jenika, Tina, Tim, Kerrie, Rick and Chris, 8 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Marian, infant daughter Donna, son Jerry, son-in-law Kyle, grandsons Jerry Jr. and Ron, as well as his 4 siblings, infant brother Victor, brothers Willis and Max and sister Lois.
Gordon was an amazingly special person, loved by all who knew him. He truly will be missed!! Remembering him will be easy, we’ll do it every single day, missing him will be the heartache that never goes away.

His Journey's Just Begun - Ellen Brenneman
Don't think of him as gone away his journey's just begun, life holds so many facets this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away.
And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched... for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.
