James Lee Perin; husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, sheriff, policeman, banker and United State Marine passed away on July 14, 2013. He died peacefully with his family by his bedside. Jim was born September 11, 1928. He joined the Marine Corps during World War II with his mother's permission at age 16. He served in the Pacific theater, arriving in the combat zone just after the cessation of hostilities, serving his enlistment in China as Allied forces disarmed the Japanese.
Jim married E. Dolores Hall after being honorably discharged from the Corps, working first at the B&M grocery and eventually buying the store at the corner of Broadway and Hewitt in Everett, where the comcast Arena stands today.
In 1959, Jim obtained a commission as a Snohomish County Sheriff, serving until 1962 when he joined the Everett Police Department, where he served 20 distinguished years, retiring as Chief of Police in 1982. Among his treasured experiences while serving on the police force was a friendship with former U.S. Senator Henry "Scoop" Jackson during Scoop's later years in office. His retirement from law enforcement was anything but work or service free. He immediately joined Frontier Bank, where he rose to Vice President prior to his final retirement in 1992. During that time, his commitment to the Community continued as he helped organize the original police department for the City of Mill Creek. He and Dolores retired to Texada Island and Powell River in British Columbia for the nearly a decade before returning home to Snohomish County.
Jim was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dolores; and by his youngest son, Randy. He is survived by his younger brother, Robert Perin; oldest son, Mike; and daughter-in-law, Terri; his grandchildren, Mary Perin, Stephani Perin-Earling; and his grandson-in-law, Eric Earling; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Sophia Earling; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was a man of Immense character and faith, whose service to his family, the community, the church, and the Marines was much, much more than can be expressed in the small space of an obituary. The Marine motto of Semper Fidelis rang true in Jim's life. He never sought headlines, but the impact of his life was profound; and his commitment to those he loved and the communities he cared about ran deep. That's how he will be fondly remembered and treasured by his family, friends, and loved ones. Jim Perin. Semper Fi. Service to be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 27, 2013 at Warm Beach Free Methodist Church 20815 Marine Drive, Stanwood, WA 98292-7889.
