Jim passed away on March 27, 2025 after a sudden cardiac arrest.
Jim was born in Wiley, Colorado and spent most of his childhood in Colorado and Kansas. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from 1959-1962 on the USS Hornet. Jim met his first wife Myrna Ross while stationed in San Diego. After his time in the Navy, they made a life in Everett, WA, where he spent the rest of his life.
In 1965, Jim became a firefighter with the Everett Fire Department. He dedicated the rest of his working life serving his community. He retired in 1996 as a Battalion Chief. He was thrilled recently to find out his two grandsons, Cole and Nick, were following in his footsteps becoming firefighters.
Jim had a huge heart. He was humble and kind and constantly giving to anyone in need. He was a quiet man, yet loved great conversation, and was so happy spending time with family, or running into an old friend or coworker. In earlier years, he was a motorcycle enthusiast, spending time on the road on his Yamaha. He took many dirt bike trips to Eastern, WA with his sons, Kenny and Tony, and friends from Everett fire and police. He was an avid reader with an inquisitive mind. He was also a lover of animals, and dare you kill a spider in his presence or a scolding would ensue.
Jim was married to Carol Johnson Cox from 1972 until her sudden passing in 1996.
Jim married Carol Lindquist in 2005 with whom he spent the rest of life. During his retirement, he and Carol spent many cherished months traveling throughout the USA hauling their 5th wheel and enjoying time together. They visited family and friends, enjoying many sights, including his favorite place, the canyons in Utah. He was a supporter of anything related to his children and grandchildren. He rarely missed a sporting event, concert, or family celebration.
Jim is survived by his only living sibling, sister, Nancy King (Bob, deceased) of Schertz, TX, wife, Carol, children, Kenneth Schwartz and Kelly Schwartz Mardesich. Step children, Anthony Cox (Reatha), Lynn Lauzon, Jeff Wilson and Steve Wilson (Sherry). Grandchildren, Brian Schwartz, Cole and Nicholas Mardesich, Steffen Cox (Helen), Kevynn Ann Cox, Chanel Enslow (Nate), Jeannie Wilson, Laura Lauzon, Chelsea Lauzon, Katherine Taylor and great grandson, Gabrielle Taylor.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Marie Schwartz, sisters, Shirley, Maryann and Betty and wife Carol.
