It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of John “Jack” Monahan. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 20th. He lived life to the fullest with a positive attitude that radiated to everyone he met.
He was born on November 21, 1940 in Fort Edward, NY, son of William and Mary Monahan. His siblings are William Daniel, Loretta Jean, and Mark Kevin. He grew up in upstate New York and then moved to WA state during high school. He attended Washington State University and graduated in 1963. He moved to Virginia in the 1970s and later resided in Annapolis MD, Vienna and Gainesville VA. He spent the last few years of his life traveling with his brother, Mark.
He was a family man with a strong faith that endured him throughout his life. He was married to Elaine Young on St. Patrick’s day in 1974. He supported his family and had a strong love for his two daughters. He cherished his large family and grandchildren. He worked as a salesman, in the computer industry and later in life, the airline industry. He worked at Delta airlines for over 20 years. He loved to travel and try new adventures. He had a zest for life.
John will be remembered for his love of the water. He loved sailing, boating, fishing and just living near the water. He could befriend anyone and loved to chat and get to know you. He was a great role model and proponent of looking for the positive things and signs throughout life.
John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary, by his wife Elaine, his beloved brother, Dan and sister, Jean.
John is survived by his two daughters, Colleen (and husband Carl) of Baltimore, MD, and daughter Erin (and husband Walt) of Vienna, VA, and four grandchildren, Brooke, Jackson, Alison, and Delaney.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Friday January 31, 2025 at Evergreen Funeral Home in Everett, WA. We kindly request that no flowers be sent since we are flying back to the east coast. He will be interned with his wife, Elaine in Montclair, New Jersey. Memorial donations in John’s name can be made to Giving Back-Linda’s Legacy, PO Box 461, Severna Park, MD 21146.
