Los Angeles, California on May 31,1929 to Joseph Rosaire Gagnon and Josephine Adele Morasse. He lived in LA until the age of 2 and then moved to Washington state where he spent the rest of his days. He married Carol Cargill in June 1948 and, 2 years later, they welcomed a little boy, Joseph Gregory, in September 1950. They settled down in Snohomish County, first living in Marysville and then Everett. He started working at Scott Paper Company (later known as Kimberly Clark) in 1952 and continued for 20 years before starting Gagnon Supply Company with Greg and Carol in 1971.
Carol and Joe spent 53 years together before her death on January 1st, 2002, traveling to Hawaii, hanging out in their camper at Lake Connor Park, and doting on their grandchildren. Joe and Greg had a very special relationship and loved to travel to Alaska to fish and cheer on the Seahawks and Mariners. Joe was devastated by the loss of his son in August of 2004 as Greg was not only his son and business partner, but also his best friend.
After Carol’s passing, Joe traveled the world and met Dawn Gastaldo in 2003. They spent 16 wonderful years together traveling, laughing and enjoying each other’s company until Dawn passed away in April of 2019. After her passing, Joe moved to independent living at the Washington Oaks Independent Living Center where he enjoyed playing cards, staying active and chatting about the good ole days with great friends.
Joe was a true family man and loved watching Greg play baseball (especially when he pitched a no hitter) and watching his grandkids play soccer and baseball. He was actively involved in everything his grandchildren participated in and never missed a game! He was also actively involved as a weekly volunteer at the St Vincent de Paul Food Bank and was a member of Knights of Columbus fraternal affiliation, dating all the way back to 1964!
Joe is preceded in death by his sister, Cecelia Josephine Streissguth, and his son, Joseph Gregory Gagnon. He leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Nancy Gagnon, his 3 grandchildren, Rhiannon Lee Rowe (Kevin), Lynsey Jean Gagnon (Tyler), and Joseph Conner Gagnon (Jasmine), and 2 great grandchildren, Anderson John and Sidney Mae.
A funeral mass will be held on November 9th at 11:30am at Saint Mary Magdalen Parish at 8517 7th Ave in Everett, WA. There will also be a celebration of life on November 10th from 12-3 at Evergreen Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, in Everett, WA. The family of Joseph Roland Gagnon would love to celebrate his life with his friends and welcome everyone to join them at either or both of these locations. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank or Saint Mary Magdalen Parish as these both were places very dear to Joe.
