

Judith Ann Silk died May 16, 2020. She was born April 27,1945 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She lived in Germany, New York State and Erie Pennsylvania growing up with her father in the military. She graduated from Villa Maria Academy High School in Erie, Pennsylvania then attended and graduated from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in 1966. She joined the Army Nurse Corps as a Lieutenant serving in Tacoma, Washington and Vung Tau, Vietnam, during the Vietnam War.
After the Army, she graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1974 with majors in Nursing (Magna Cum Laude) and Sociology. She was elected to Nursing and Sociology Honor Societies and Phi Beta Kappa.
Judy was preceded in death by her father, Lt. Col. Edward A.Silk (Medal of Honor, WWII), her mother Dorothy (Silk) Nieradko, her stepfather Henry S. Nieradko, and brothers Gerald E. Silk and Daniel S. Silk. She is survived by her half-brother, Henry F. Nieradko and friends Kathy Swayze and family, Richard Smith, Barb Bly and family, Anne Mitchell, and Debra Cartmell.
Judy worked 45 years as an R.N., the last 36 as a Public Health Nurse for Snohomish Health District in Everett, Washington. Her focus was mainly working with children with special needs. Judy especially loved learning about different cultures and visiting families from multiple countries. Judy was also a long term member of a Guild for Children’s Hospital, Seattle and Chapter Q of P.E.O. International.
She enjoyed taking her brother Henry, who has Down Syndrome on a yearly vacation. Judy also loved learning, reading, gardening, crafts and travel.
Judy wanted to thank everyone for being her friend.
In her memory, donations may be made to Chapter Q, P.E.O, for women’s educational projects.
A special thank you to Barbara Bly who has been a dear and cherished friend of hers for over 40 years.
A celebration of Judy’s life will take place when we are able to gather.
