With deep sorrow and broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Kanisha Guadalupe Tijerina, affectionately known to those close to her as Kanisha, on May 28, 2025, along Interstate 84 near Bliss, Idaho. She was 35 years old.
Kanisha was born on May 16, 1990, in Edmonds, Washington. A proud graduate of Edmonds Community College, she later went on to work as an administrative assistant at the University of Washington, where she brought care, warmth, and dedication to everything she did.
Kanisha had a vibrant spirit and a deep love for exploring the world around her. She was happiest when traveling—finding joy in waterfalls, rivers, lakes, and the beauty of nature. She loved sightseeing in popular cities, discovering new foods, and immersing herself in the rhythm of new places. The Pacific Northwest held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every opportunity to experience its wonders.
More than anything, Kanisha’s greatest passion was her family. She was a loving and devoted mother to her two children: her daughter Mi’Reyna J. Ward (5) and her son Jose R. Ward (4), and a beloved partner to Dwayne Ward. Her nurturing soul, creativity, and infectious joy could be felt by everyone she met. Whether she was singing to her kids, designing something beautiful, or exploring a new artistic passion—makeup, perfumes, or crafts—Kanisha lived life with imagination and intention.
Kanisha’s heart was boundless. She was the kind of person who always showed up—offering kindness, support, and love without hesitation. Her light, creativity, and compassion touched many, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void.
She is survived by her two children, Mi’Reyna and Jose; her partner, Dwayne Ward; her beloved grandmother, Maria Carrasco; her mother, Mersalinda Tijerina; her siblings, Nathan Taylor, Careana Willis, and Ezra Ashley; and countless friends and extended family who were blessed to know her.
As we mourn the loss of such a radiant soul, we also celebrate the beautiful life Kanisha lived—one filled with love, laughter, adventure, and devotion.
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” – Psalm 23:4

Memory of Me
I'd like the memory of me
To be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow
Of smiles
When life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering
Softly down the ways.
Of happy times and laughing times
And bright sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve,
To dry before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave
When life is done.
