His early years were spent in Richmond, B.C. and later in Palmer, Alaska where he moved with his mother and big sister Arlene. They finally settled in Seattle, WA. Rick became a US citizen on Sept. 14, 1959. He graduated from Roosevelt HS in 1962 where he played sports and sang in the choir.
Rick joined the US Naval Reserves, serving two years of active duty at Barbers Pt. Oahu, HI. While there he sang and played guitar in a band he formed with fellow navy buddies. Rick was honorably discharged on June 9th, 1968. The aviation skills learned in the reserves led to his career in aviation. Also in the summer of 1968, Rick met his future wife, Carol. They married in 1970 and had one amazing daughter, Danielle. Rick worked at Boeing and then for the Port of Seattle at Sea-Tac Airport for 31 years, where he retired in 2009. In 1977 he proudly joined South Everett Lions Club serving in many ways through the years until he passed.
Rick traveled with family to many US states and Mexico. Later, he enjoyed boating in the San Juans as well as cruising. He and Carol traveled Britain together and Rick toured with Band of Brothers tour, a highlight of his love of WWII history. Rick became a docent at Flying Heritage Collection in Everett where he was able to share his vast knowledge of military aviation. During his life he enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing, karaoke, playing his guitars and banjos, Seattle major league sports as well as minor league teams in Everett. During his life Rick helped people not only through his work with the Lions Club, he also volunteered at Camp Silverton that was once a part of the Everett School District. We will miss his quick wit and sharp humor. Rick is survived by his wife, Carol and daughter, Danielle, brother-in-law, Bob Kuhner (Cheryl), nieces Mary Kay, Gwynne and families, nephew Benjamin and family and cousins Jamie, Pam, Riley and Mitchell and families. He is predeceased by his Parents, sister, Arlene Kuhner, aunt Lurene, uncle Jim, and cousin Debbie.
