2/3/36 - 7/26/24
Richard Ivelia, born on February 3, 1936, in San Pedro, California, passed away peacefully on June 26th at the age of 88, surrounded by his beloved wife Frances and their family.
Richard spent much of his life in Everett, Washington, and Tulare Beach. His roots in Everett began at the age of six when he moved to Grand Avenue to live with his Grandpa and Grandma Barcott. Grand Avenue, affectionately known as Garlic Avenue Street, was a close-knit community of Croatians. This community profoundly shaped who Richard became. He later moved to Dogwood at age 12 and attended Immaculate Conception Grade School, graduating from Everett High School in 1954, where he was an avid baseball and basketball player. Richard and Fran raised their children in his childhood home in Everett, continuing a legacy of family and tradition in the very place where he himself grew up. Later in life, Richard and Fran moved to Tulare Beach.
Richard led a life marked by dedication and hard work, forging a long and successful career as a Longshoreman (ILWU 32) and Commercial Fisherman in Everett. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his deep love for his family and friends. A proud life member of the Everett Elks Club, Richard found joy in the camaraderie of friends and in playing racquetball and handball.
He was also known for what family and friends fondly referred to as "the triangle," which represented the three places around which his world revolved traveling in his famous blue truck: home, the docks, and the Elks Club. It was said that if you needed to find Richard, you could follow the triangle.
Married to the love of his life, Frances, for an extraordinary 67 years, Richard cherished every moment they shared together. Their enduring marriage stands as a testament to their deep love and unwavering commitment. Richard will be remembered for his loyalty, strong work ethic, pride in his Croatian heritage, and steadfast dedication to his family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and respected him.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife Frances; his four children, Tammi (Terry*) Gleason, Joe Ivelia, Rick (Debbie) Ivelia, and Vince (Leslie) Ivelia; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Family was always at the center of his heart, and he took great pleasure in their successes and happiness. He was especially proud to see the name Richard carried on through four generations.
Richard is also survived by his brother Robert (Juanita) Hill and sister Mary (Ron) Tallent. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Jennie Hill, his brother Eddie and son in law Terry Gleason.
A private service will be held to honor Richard’s life and memory.
