Beverly Joyce Stenner (Claar), passed away peacefully on November 30th, 2024, surrounded by her son Tim and his wife, Kim. Beverly was born in San Diego, California, on December 10th, 1931, the oldest of 5 children to Hoyt Leslie Claar and Thelma Mary Kurfurst. She and her family moved to northern California at a young age where she eventually graduated from East Nicolas High School in the spring of 1949 in a class of 22 students.
She went to work at McClellan Air Force Base right out of high school where she would meet and marry the love of her life, Eugene, on August 3rd, 1952. After a period of time, she and Eugene moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was reassigned and lived there until he separated from the Air Force. They drove across country and settled back in the North Highlands area. Eugene went to work at McClellan and Beverly remained a stay-at-home wife where they would raise three boys, Dennis, Tim, and Les. She remained a stay-at-home mom for the remainder of her life.
Beverly enjoyed many activities. She enjoyed camping with the family. She was fond of camping with the family and they spent many weeks camping in the summer either at Donner Lake area, or along the northern California coast.
She enjoyed feeding the wild birds. She was especially fond of the hummingbirds and the finches. She kept feeders full of food on the patio and the front porch so she could watch the hummingbirds while sitting in her chair or working at the kitchen sink. She also enjoyed putting out peanuts for the squirrels that occupied the backyard. She kept a peanut feeder in the back yard full of peanuts.
Another one of her passions was baking and making jelly. She made jelly and cookies for not just her family, but for many people she came across like her gardeners, the lady that cut her hair, the ladies at The Farmer’s Wife, just to name a few, were recipients of her delicious desserts.
Beverly was an avid bowler for many years. She wasn’t a high-average bowler but she enjoyed bowling with the same ladies year after year. She won numerous awards over the years. When she had to stop bowling, she still enjoyed birthday lunches with her former teammates.
She was an avid San Francisco Giants fan and would not miss a game on the radio. Even if the game was televised, she would have both the TV and the radio on with the TV muted so she could hear the game live. Her son, Tim, would call her virtually every day; invariably, the conversation would almost always veer to the Giants. Even during the off-season Tim would keep her updated on what the Giants were doing. I know she is enjoying them right now; she would be proud of them.
She is survived by a brother, Cliff, her three sons; Dennis (Michelle), Tim (Kim), and Les (Debra), eight grandchildren, and multiple great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister and two brothers.
She will be sorely missed.
