

Carmin Sedric Hawk returned to the heavens on 31 March 2023. He passed comfortably in his home surrounded and loved by his family in Rancho Cordova, California at the age of 93 years old. Carmin was born on 22 March 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, son of Ardless Benjamin Hawk Sr. and Bertha May Jones; grandson of Green Hawk Sr. and Lovinia House of Monroe, Georgia. Carmin enlisted into the Army Air Corps at the age of 15 and honorably served for 22 years, ultimately retiring from the United States Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War and applied his military ethos throughout his life.
Carmin Hawk was a devout Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Buddhist member and espoused the life philosophy principles taught in the Lotus Sutra. He also served as a spiritual mentor to countless people throughout California, the United States, and many other foreign countries for more than 50 years in Rancho Cordova and the greater Sacramento area. Carmin believed all individuals possessed the innate ability to overcome obstacles they encounter and ultimately attain true happiness in their life. He held numerous leadership positions at the group-, district-, and chapter-levels within the SGI organization’s youth and men divisions.
He was preceded in death by his father Ardless Benjamin Hawk Sr., his mother Bertha May Jones; his sisters: Rebecca May, Reetha Melba, Fraulein Hycenth; his brothers: Ardless Benjamin Jr., Forrest Edward, Thomas Jefferson, Donald Stephenson, Ahsynyar, Marveydas, and Yoheimyah Hawk. Carmin Sedric is survived by his wife of 59 years (m. 1964), Kimiko Hawk (Mogi) of Yamagata, Japan; his children: Taka Hawk Sr., Taurus Hawk Sr. (Virginia), Riki Hawk Sr., Sumi Hawk, Vincent Montagne Hawk, and Teresa Darmez Hawk (Michigan); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was respected by his peers as a mentor, leader, and role model. Carmin Sedric Hawk remained fiercely independent through his final moments on this journey and will forever be remembered as a husband, father, and a hero to all the individuals he impacted and blessed in this wonderful life.
Funeral and burial services will be held 9 O’Clock AM on Tuesday, 11 April 2023 at Mount Vernon Memorial Park, 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, California 95628.
