Dorothy “Dottie” Darlene Gandy (DeWitt), age 97, died at Kaiser Medical Center in Sacramento, CA on May 31, 2018. The cause was renal and congestive heart failure. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family.
Dottie was born October 7, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Merton and Bonnie DeWitt (Hinkle). She was raised from the age of 12 by her grandmother. She moved to California in her 20’s and made it her lifelong home. Dottie was well traveled and visited 27 countries. She kept a meticulous home and appearance. She was a marvelous cook and loved shopping, watching her soap opera “Days of our Lives” and spending time with her family.
Dottie was a beautiful woman with a sweet and loving soul. The most important thing in her life was the love of her family. She was the matriarch of a large, affectionate and caring family of whose lives she had always been a part. One of the last things she mentioned before passing was the great love she had for her family and how loved she felt at the end, surrounded by so many of them in person and in spirit.
Dottie is survived by her son Richard and his wife Susan, her daughter Jeanette and her husband Niles; her sister Marilyn; her grandchildren, Mike, Richard, David, Danny, Debra Ann, Darla, Debbie, Dana, Robert, Jessica, Daniel, Tina, Christie, Karri and Jerry; and numerous great (and great-great) grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
She was preceded in death by her children Caroline Dale and Robert Larsen; late husbands Hobert DeVore and Bruce Gandy; her brothers Richard DeWitt and Earl DeWitt; her grandson Doug Larsen and her sister, Shirley Hannum (Jaynes).
