I am so very sorry to hear that Uncle Dwain passed away, you guys are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Dad,

I miss you so much!  I haven't been able to sit down to write anything because the tears blur my vision.  Even though I know that you are with God, out of pain and enjoying the rest you deserve, I can't quite believe that you're not a phone call away.  Just to say "Hi, how ya doin" or what's new?  I know that with time, God will find a way to comfort me, but right now, its too fresh.  

You have been my father, friend; mentor, teacher; counselor, confidante; all the time teaching and leading by example.  No on could have had a better dad than you.

Carol, my thought and prayers are with you.  I have been going to D&L automotive for many many years and I will miss his pleasant smile and all the help he has provided my car and me throughout the years.  Dwain was adored by all his customers and hope we can still do business with D&L.

There's a 1980 Pontiac grand Prix by the name of old blue that will certainly miss Dwain, and will most likely be joining him soon. From Audrey Thomas, Steve Wight, friends of Karen Noland  your kids babysitter and her mom we wish  the family well.

Robert,we will always remember your dad as one of the finest men to be amoung us.His character and talents will be greatly missed.I feel a great sense of privledge in knowing him.God has a place in heaven for him.

    We join the host of others who send you our empathy and pray for you to have comfort. 
    We met Dwain when we took our car to D&L for repair about five years ago. Many of our relatives, neighbors and friends we referred to Dwain for their car repair. We were loyal patrons immediately.
   When a TRULY great person like Dwain leaves this earth, the loss can be felt around the globe. 
   Our prayers are with you and your family to be comforted. We can all look forward to that time in the future when loved ones will be together again no more to part.

It's not often that you look forward to taking your car into the shop. D&L is the only shop we refer friends to, & we tell them it is an "honest shop" & women didn't have to be afraid of being taken advantage of. My visit last week will be my lasting memory of Dwain. His quick & easy smile, friendly personality, were Dwain! Our entire family knows D&L is our "only" shop will miss you! Carol & family prayers to all of you!

Our sincere condolences to the Bartels family. Dwain has been a trusted auto mechanic/advisor/troubleshooter to us since D & L's location on Date Avenue in the late Sixties. We have always recommended D & L to friends and family, and they too became loyal customers. Dwain's knowledge, integrity and warm smile will be long remembered and missed.

My deepest sympathy to the Bartels family at the loss of their husband, father, and grandfather.  And to Robin at the loss of a business partner.  Dwain was my mechanic for many years and always provided superior service.  My grandfather worked with him many years ago, and because of Dwain's work ethic, my grandfather respected and recommended him highly.  Over the years I too would come to appreciate Dwain for his expertise and trustworthiness.  Dwain took great pride in his work and served his customers with honesty and courtesy.  When you walked into the office he was always there to greet you with a cheerful smile, a warm hand shake, and sometimes a hug.  I will miss him not only as a skilled service provider, but as a wonderful human being and great friend as well.

This is very sad news.  Dwaine and Carol were always together supporting each other and their friends. ASCCA was always part of the family and Dwaine was always behind Carol when she was President of this great Association and during those years as some of you remember were the toughest ones of our history. Later when Carol became ill Dwaine talked about her and how he was helping her get along. 

We lost a great friend, great husband and a great association ally.

Years ago I read in the Independent that we had a woman President, Carol Bartels.  I then decided to attend my first Team Weekend, where I met many members including Dwaine and Carol.  

Very kind couple, passionate and supportive, always had the time to help another ASCCA member, or anyone for that matter.  Even with Carol's health failing, Dwaine still kept in touch and did everything he could to keep ASCCA in the hearts and minds of other shop owners.

The Bartels are a perfect example of the many passionate members in our association, who keep the ASCCA family alive for future generations to enjoy and benefit from.

Thanks to the many before us, who continued to carry the vision till the end and inspire us to do the same.

Dwain was a wonderful ASCCA member and a very nice person. We had the experience of trading customers a couple of times - mine moved north, his moved south.  

One young man he sent us was a college student at UC Riverside and later UC Irvine. We maintained his hand-me-down family Camry from the start of his college career through his M.D.  degree, many years later. Often, Dwain and I would have to speak to father and son, and to each other, to explain repairs needed. The father, a CA State accountant, came down for visits to his son and would always come by the shop and talk about his cars, his family, how much he trusted and relied upon Dwain and Carol…and us. 

It was a typical vignette of the average honest, hard-working ASCCA member and his “devoted” client. Someone posted a FB picture of Dwain with his great-great-grandchild last week. Seeing it brought back many fond memories, including this one. Via con Dios, Amigo.

To the Bartels Family.  From being our neighbor on the Corner of Freeway Circle and Date Ave, to that old white block building on Date Ave, to the Roseville Rd location, Dwain solved all our auto troubles.  I think that if there are any troubles in Heaven, Dwain is there solving them now.  God Bless.

I've known Dwain for many many years.
He and Robin kept my Jalopies running for years until I could afford to buy a new car, and I didn't need a lot of work to be done.  However, I still had Lunch (Unscheduled) numerous times with Dwain at Taco Bell. I visited with him last week at his shop, so when I saw where he had passed on ; It suprised me. Carol you and the family have my condolences.

Carol, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  Dwain was a real gentleman and a great family member.  We will be remembering Dwain at our family gatherings.  We are sorry we can't be with you at his services.  With love from your cousins,

Grandpa , You made such a huge impact in every single person who ever was  fortunate enough to meet you. Thankfully i was fortunate enough  to have you as a great grandfather. We all love you so much. and miss you every single day that passes.

Dwain was one of the nicest and most steadfast men I have ever met. He supported Carol not only as the President of ASCCA, but also as a very active Chair of our Government Affairs Committee, and Board Member. Through thick and thin, this dynamic duo broke sweat and tears for this association and our industry. They loved their family, and they also loved all of us just as much.

Dwain Bartels was a trusted, honored and invaluable member of the Automotive Service Councils of California since 1977. 

As respected leaders, Dwain and his wife ASCCA Past President Carol Bartels graced ASCCA with powerful conviction, passion for the automotive industry, and immense smiles every time you saw them. 

The Automotive Service Councils of California salutes you Dwain for your never ending commitment to your industry. You will be greatly missed and forever noted as a loving and honorable man.
