Edna Mae Larimer (Caughran) passed away peacefully at Syringa Place in Twin Falls, Idaho, on July 28, 2023 at the age of 92. She was born in Denver, Colorado on March 14, 1931 to Carl Leroy and Dorothy Lydia (Gower) Caughran. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jack Eugene Caughran (1930 – 2009) and Robert Carl “Bob” Caughran (1943 – 1992), and her daughter, Nancy Joann Lackemacher of Citrus Heights, California (1957 – 2018).
While in Denver, her favorite memories were of her father owning a gas station and coal yard and her mother working in the attached grocery store. There were always children to play jigsaw puzzles, kick-the-can and hide-and-go-seek in the neighborhood. In 1943, at age 12, she and her family moved to Arkansas. This was the same year her brother, Bob, was born. Her father wanted to be a farmer, but work was needed in the bomb box factory during the War. In 1945, she and her brother, Jack, took a Greyhound bus to visit their grandparents in Sacramento, California. Her parents then also decided to move to California. They sold all their belongings in Arkansas and with their son, Bob, boarded the train to Sacramento, where they established their home and their life. Edna attended high school there and went on to establish her career as a bookkeeper.
In each of the homes she lived in as an adult, Edna could be found in the gardens planting her favorite camellias, roses, and lilacs. Frequently, there was a dog, and sometimes a cat, by her side. In addition to her growing family, one of her proudest accomplishments was when she purchased her first home as a single woman in 1980. When she passed away, she was the widow of Richard Earl “Dick” Larimer (1928 – 2007). Dick had a passion for the Shriners Hospital for Children organization and involved Edna in his activities.
Edna is survived by her son, Julian Ross “Rick” Herrin, Jr. (Donalda) of Pencil Bluff, Arkansas, and daughter Deborah Lynn Aldama (Richard) of Twin Falls, Idaho. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren: Michelle Larsen (John), Jennifer Keeling (Tim), Laurie McCullough (Chris), Cora Herrin, Gina Horton (Wade), and Daniel Aldama (Tamara); 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
