Among Florence's early hobbies were hunting, skiing, and amateur radio. Florence graduated from Northside High School, Corning, New York in 1948. She was employed at Corning Glass Works, and at Bell Telephone Company as an operator. In 1956 she married Frank La Dieu, veteran, and radio and color TV repairman. She was a dental hygienist in Syracuse until 1965 when her husband's career took her out of the state. She made homes in Sacramento, Wiesbaden, Verona, Kansas City, Wiesbaden again, London, Kansas City again, and finally Sacramento again. She and her husband were active in the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society and hosted many times at the Jazz Jubilee, into the wee hours of the morning. She attended metalsmithing classes at CSU Sacramento in the late 1980s and cared for injured wild birds at home. She was her husband's caregiver during his last six years. In the aftermath of his passing she participated in many advocacy groups that sprang up during the Obama years. In 2015 she became disoriented while driving in her neighborhood and was brought home by the Sheriff. She spent her last five years in the memory care unit at Oakmont of Carmichael. Florence is survived by her son in Rio Linda and her nieces in Las Vegas, Nevada and Corning, New York.
