

suffering a stroke. He was born August 21, 1950 in Cumberland, Maryland to
Robert and Margaret Spriggs, and grew up in Ridgeley, West Virginia.
His educaon included a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronaucal Engineering
from West Virginia University and a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from
California State University Sacramento.
He aended ROTC at WVU and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force following
graduaon. He rered as a Lt. Colonel with 26 years of service in 1997. He and his
family then moved to Grass Valley, California, his wife Tina’s home town. Shortly
thereaer, he was hired by Nevada County as an IT specialist, and rered from
there aer more than 20 years in 2019.
He was a member of Nevada Lodge #13 Free and Accepted Masons,
Evangeline #9 and Penrhyn #159 Order of the Eastern Star, the York Rite and Ben
Ali Shrine. His passion was flying. He flew for 53 years, accident free, in the U.S.,
Mexico and Canada. He was a cerfied Flight Instructor, and held his commercial
license as well as his float plane rang.
He was proceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 47
years Tina Mahewson Spriggs, his daughter Laurie Nicole Spriggs, his 3
granddaughters, Cassara, Corinne and Selia, and his sister Sharon Spriggs Straon.
His memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Nevada
City on June 6, 2026 at 11 a.m. with a recepon to follow. He will be laid to rest
on June 8, 2026 at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks at 11:30 a.m. with
military honors.
