Hazel Fite (nee Harris) was born on September 17, 1910 in the township of Ellsworth in Logan County Arkansas. She passed from this earth into the hands of her Lord and Savior just 4 days after her 104th birthday in Fair Oaks, California on September 21, 2014.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Charles F. Fite, and her son-in-law G. W. Hardcastle, and grandson-in-law Charles A. Barry. She is survived by her children; D. Bruce Fite (Darlyne) and Barbara A. Hardcastle, grandchildren; Pam Bouldin (Bill), Greg Hardcastle (Kathie), Chet Fite (Cara), Sharon Mayfield (Randy) and Teresa Barry; 11 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Hazel grew up in Paris, AR where she met Charlie when they were teenagers. They were married in 1931, lived in Paris until WWII when they moved to southern California where Charlie worked in the shipyards at Long Beach. After the war they moved back to Ft. Smith, AR and Hazel supported Charlie in his varied business ventures, most notable of which, was the development of the Dairy Queen franchise business. Hazel and Charlie moved to the Sacramento area in 1969 where Charlie went into the Real Estate development business with his son Bruce.
Hazel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother & “GG” to her family. She was adored and admired by them all. Hazel was the embodiment of unconditional love to all those she met, and she never tired of meeting new friends and putting them on her prayer list. If you knew Hazel, you knew that she prayed for you each day without fail. She read her Bible daily and was a wealth of wisdom and knowledge for her family and friends.
She was a fabulous cook; whether making some of her old southern recipes, or something new she had learned from her favorite cooking show. She bragged about her new recipes using E.V.O.O. It seemed that there was always a pot of GG’s soup on the stove, filling her house with the most delicious aromas. They came in an endless combination of ingredients and flavors; but always so very tasty. She never stopped learning new things; whether it was reading 3 to 4 books a month, or using her iPad to watch her favorite sermons online. She always lived in the moment, and looked with excitement to the future; particularly the one she is now enjoying, and will continue to enjoy for eternity.
She had a gift of making each one of her family, from the oldest to the youngest, feel as if they were the most important person in the world. She had the ability to look past all your flaws and see the best in you; it seemed that she could see you with God’s eyes. That in turn made one want to strive to be better than they were, not just because you didn’t want to disappoint her, but because of the confidence she instilled in you.
The Apostle Paul wrote that “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” This was Hazel Fite. This was her life. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
A Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held on Tuesday September 30, 2014 at 12:00 PM at the Mount Vernon Memorial Park, located at 8201 Greenback Lane, Fair Oaks, CA 95628.
