With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Irene Mei Wen, also lovingly known as Amah, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and generosity.
Irene was a force of nature—fierce in spirit and boundless in love. She lived with a tenacity that inspired all who knew her. Whether she was standing up for what she believed in or fiercely protecting her family, she did so with unwavering conviction.
Her kitchen was her sanctuary, and those lucky enough to gather at her table knew the joy of a meal prepared with soul. She could cook up a storm, and her dishes were more than food—they were expressions of care, culture, and connection.
Caring for others came naturally to her. She gave freely and always showed up for those in need. Yet, in her humility and independence, she rarely asked for help in return—choosing instead to carry her burdens quietly and with grace.
She leaves behind a family who will forever feel her absence, yet carry her strength in their bones. Irene was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers but she leaves behind a devoted family who will carry her legacy forward with pride and love: her daughter, Elena Morelli (Louis Binaley Jr.), her beloved granddaughter Carys Morelli, 8 siblings, over 50 nieces and nephews, residing in Taiwan who will miss her deeply. She also leaves behind countless friends who became like family over the years, each touched by her fierce loyalty and nurturing heart. And always by her side—her faithful Yorkie, Sassy.
We will miss her laughter, her fire, and her fierce, tender heart—but we are better for having been loved by her.
A private and intimate celebration of her life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in her memory—cook a favorite meal, care for someone in need, or simply love fiercely, just as she did.
