A Career of Service and Innovation
Jim dedicated 20 years to the United States Marine Corps, enlisting in 1969. His career was a testament to his work ethic; he began as a Private (E-1) and rose through the ranks to become a Warrant Officer, ultimately retiring as a Captain (O-3) in 1989. A pioneer in military technology, Jim was among the first modern computer programmers for the Marines, mastering COBOL 1 & 2 and the Enhance systems.
Following his military service, Jim spent another 20 years in the IT department at Sierra College in Rocklin. His colleagues knew him as a dedicated professional who helped navigate the college through decades of technical evolution.
Roots and Recreation
In retirement, Jim returned to his roots. He spent years meticulously refurbishing his childhood home in Orangevale, a project that was a labor of love and a tribute to his family history. An avid outdoorsman, Jim found peace in the natural beauty of California, spending his days fishing, biking, and hiking.
Family and Legacy
Jim was the son of the late Ira and Kay Langley and was preceded in death by his brother, John. He is survived by his wife, Nobuko; her children, Eric and Jennifer; and his son, James. He also leaves behind his siblings, Donna, Juanita, Marty, and Richard; his grandsons, Christian and Chase; and his great-grandson, Jaxon.
Final Wishes and Memorials
In accordance with his wishes, Jim has been cremated. He will remain with his family until he is eventually laid to rest alongside his wife, Nobuko, united once more.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim’s memory to the Marine Corps League. These contributions support the "Semper Fi" spirit Jim carried throughout his entire life.
