On January 26th of 1999, John Marvic Daria – a long-awaited blessing – was born in Quezon City, Philippines. John was the second of four children and is much loved by his parents Victorino and Mary Grace as well as his siblings: Nica, Joanna, and Mathew. His many aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, friends and teachers also cared for him very much.
There are numerous ways to describe John. His loving family and his close friends remember him to be a very special character. John always had such a vibrant laugh and attitude even when he was younger. John’s personality practically pounces out of his photographs. He was just a simple and fun boy to be around. His smiles and giggles were always full and his hugs were always welcoming. Although he was a man of few words, he had such an honest heart. He was forthright even if it may sometimes hurt you. On the other hand, if times were tough or if you were troubled John was there to cheer you up saying, “It’s okay, you can do it. Everything is gonna be fine!” with a tender smile and a pat on the back.
He was such a content boy; it did not take much to please him. He enjoyed watching his superhero television shows and movies as well as playing his video games. John also loved music. He was always singing along or maybe even dancing to the rhythm. When he was at church, he would feel the music and be touched by the songs.
His true best friend is his “Papa;” they understood each other as if they had their own language. Their father-son bond was extraordinarily unique. They would do practically everything together. They liked to joke around, hang out, or just talk.
As much as John enjoyed spending time with his Papa, he also loved family dinners, game nights, barbecues, as well as watching funny movies or shows with his family. He also liked the family bike rides and walks around the neighborhood. In addition, the car rides were also very memorable. John and his family have reached countless miles filled with sing-alongs to the latest hits on the radio.
John, a free-spirit, has forever touched those who dearly loved him, cared for him and worked with him. The legacy he leaves us is very important. John lived a life of a superhero much like his favorites: Spiderman, Batman, and Superman. He was extremely strong and brave. Like Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben said, “With power comes great responsibility.” We all have the power to make a difference by following John’s example. It only takes a smile, a “Hello,” or a wave to make someone’s day.
He is one sweet boy that will be forever missed.
The times we have spent with him will be forever cherished.
But, John is still very much alive in our hearts.
