

She started dancing at age 4 years old. Taught tap dancing at age 16, and danced at the Hollywood Palladium with George Burns and his wife; Gracie Allen. She also danced at Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium, which held 1,200 people on stage, the largest auditorium ever constructed, it even had Ben Hur’s Chariots on stage my mom said.
In Jo’s later life she enjoyed dancing in her 70’s with the “Happy Tappers”. She would dance at the various Senior Venues, entertaining them with skits, costumes and old songs they could clap their hands to.
She married the love of her life, Douglas A. Fishel, at the start of World War ll in Pueblo, Colorado where Douglas was stationed for training in the Air Force. They were married over 50 years, Celebrating their Golden Anniversary, which their 3 children put on for them.
Jo is remembered by her three children; Marilyn Woodruff, Janine Gonsiorowski and Glenn Fishel; by her grandchildren; Edward Mitchell, Jr., Angela Kern and Lacy Jimosse; and her great grandchildren; Jared and Gracie Mitchell. At this time there will be no service, due to Covid-19 Pandemic. Jo was joined with her husband; Douglas, who passed on May 13,1996 at Mt. Vernon Mortuary.
The family will have a delayed memorial celebration of her life, probably in early 2021, when the Pandemic has passed.
Due to the current COVID protocols for Sac/Placer/El Dorado County, guests
must wear protective masks at all times while inside the funeral home facility
and practice the recommended six foot social distancing.
