

LtCol Leonard J. Weiner, USAF Retired, died October 5, 2017 at the age of 76. Lt Col Weiner was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey on 1 July 1941 to Morton and Evelyn Weiner. LtCol Weiner is survived by his wife of 45 years Adria, Daughter Donna and her husband William Sherman of Elk City, Oklahoma, daughter Cynthia Robinson of Rocklin, California, son Msgt Lawrence Weiner and his wife SMSgt Beverly Justice of Peyton, Colorado, and daughter Jennifer Weiner of Rocklin, California. LtCol Weiner is also survived by his grand-children: Brandon Robinson, Alexandra Robinson, George Jett, Lenia Weiner-Ingram and Allen Tanner. He also has two great grand children in Yuba City, California.
He served on Active Duty in the U.S. Air Force for over 28 years. He received his commission as a 2nd Lt and Navigator Wings through the Aviation Cadet program and then attended bombardier training at Mather AFB, California. He flew B-52 bombers in Strategic Air Command at Seymour Johnson AFB, N.C. He then attended Pilot Training and finished first in his class. LtCol Weiner flew worldwide missions in the C-141 from Norton AFB, California. He then was assigned to Cam Rahn Bay Air Base in Vietnam flying C-7 aircraft and he has credit for 110 combat missions. A year later he was back in the U.S. in SAC flying B-52 aircraft at Wurtsmith AFB, Michigan. He then moved to Barksdale AFB, Louisiana at the Eight Air Force Command Center as the Deputy Chief of the Control Division. LtCol Weiner then was the Commander of the 3532nd USAF Recruiting Squadron in Nashville, Tenn for four years and then to Headquarters as Deputy Director of Resources. He finished his career at McClellan AFB, California as Chief of Operations Division with responsibility for the Command Post, Plans and Mobility.
LtCol Weiner received his Bachelor Degree from the University of Nebraska and his Masters Degree from Central Michigan University. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he worked at Aerojet as a Program Manager on the Advanced Solid Rocket Motor Program for the Space Shuttle. He retired from Aerojet and resided in Auburn, California for over 30 years. Even LtCol Weiner fully retired, he donated his time to counsel veterans about their health care rights and options.
LtCol Weiner's military decorations include the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Commendation Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm and National Defense Medal. LtCol Weiner will be laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery at Dixon, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in memoriam of Lt.Col. Leonard J. Weiner, Rtd.
