She first met her late husband, Aubrey Penman, who was the band director at the early age of 19 at Grant High. They were married in 1954 after she started teaching at Grant.
She shared her love and gift of music by singing in her school choir and for local events in her younger years, she sang in the church choir at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rio Linda, and after high school acquired her bachelors degree and teaching credentials at San Jose State College to further her education in music.
After teaching primarily choir, art and English over 33 years at Grant and Rio Tierra, she retired and continued her love of sports with golf and bowling and her love of music by singing and directing in her church choir and by attending as many musicals and broadway shows at Music Circus and B Street Theater among other venues and companies.
She had many friends and had a quick wit that would have you chuckling soon. She was a respected teacher, dear friend, and community servant that we will miss and will keep in our hearts forever.
